Ratings tell a second story. betPawa and 1xBet both hold 4.6 stars, while Kwikbet sits at 3.6 from just over 10,000 installs.

Google Play carries the Android apps of Betika, SportPesa, 1xBet and Mozzart Bet, but Odibets serves its Android app as an APK from app.odibets.com and Chezacash links an APK from its home page.
1win and Linebet hand out their Android apps as APK files from 1win.com and linebet.com, and Linebet’s iPhone version goes through Apple’s TestFlight.

Where a brand offers both, take the Play Store version: it updates itself, while an APK has to be fetched again for each new release.
Licence check
Legit betting apps in Kenya
A legit app is published for a company on the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) list for 2025/26, and the store listing tells you which company that is.
On Google Play the developer matches the GRA licence holder for 1xBet, 22Bet, Melbet, 888starz and Betgr8. Kwikbet’s listing names its licence number, BK-0001133, which appears on the GRA list for 2025/26.
Some large brands publish under another name. SportPesa’s Android app comes from Kentech S.L.U. while Milestone Games Limited holds the licence, and 22Bet’s iPhone app lists Arcadia Sport PLC as seller.
A licence line inside the listing is not the same as a row on the register. The Kenyan iPhone app for BetWinner, sold by Lucky Bet Limited, says it works under a local Kenyan gambling licence, yet Lucky Bet Limited has no row in the 2025/26 GRA register, so search the seller’s name on gra.go.ke before you trust the claim.
1win and Linebet publish their apps for companies on Curaçao licences, 1Win N.V. (OGL/2024/587/0621) and ASPRO N.V. (OGL/2024/565/0553), and neither company appears on the 2025/26 GRA list.
When the names differ, open the app link from the brand’s own Kenyan site, as SportPesa does at ke.sportpesa.com/app, instead of picking a store result. The guide to betting law in Kenya explains what the GRA licence covers.
Low data
Lite betting apps and data-free betting
SportPesa’s Android listing says the app is 100% data-free, and Betika’s says you can bet, win and withdraw without buying bundles.
Betgr8 publishes a separate lite app next to its full apps, and Odibets lists a low data mode in its 54.7 MB iPhone app. The full 1xBet iPhone app, by comparison, needs 293.3 MB of space.
Free space adds up quickly: the 22Bet, Melbet and 888starz iPhone apps each need between 239.9 MB and 295.5 MB. If your bundle often runs out before the weekend games, SportPesa and Betika both advertise betting without data, and Betgr8’s lite app suits a phone short on storage.
M-Pesa
Deposits and withdrawals in a betting app
Deposits inside the apps run as an M-Pesa STK prompt: you type the amount, confirm with your PIN, and the balance updates in the app.
Minimum top-ups start low, at KSh 1 for Kwikbet, Bangbet and MSport, KSh 2 for betPawa, and at 1xBet KSh 10 by Airtel Money or KSh 40 by M-Pesa.
Airtel Money works in the 1xBet, 22Bet, Melbet, 888starz, BetWinner, SportPesa, Betika, Odibets, betPawa, Bangbet and Betgr8 apps. The Mozzart Bet, SportyBet, Kwikbet, Chezacash, MSport and Paripesa apps take M-Pesa without Airtel.

Betting app questions
Is there a betting app without tax in Kenya?
No licensed app avoids tax. Since 1 July 2026 the Finance Act 2026 has charged 5% excise duty on betting deposits, and under the Income Tax Act the bookmaker withholds 20% of winnings, worked out as payout minus stake, before they reach your balance. The app, the website and SMS betting all carry the same deductions.
Which betting app gives a bonus on registration in Kenya?
Odibets gives a KSh 30 free bet on registration. Mozzart Bet's Karibu Bonus is a 50% free bet of up to KSh 2,500 on the first deposit, plus up to 50 Aviator free bets. Other sign-up offers are compared on the welcome bonus list.
Are betting apps free to download?
Yes. The Kenyan bookmaker apps on Google Play and the App Store cost nothing to install, and the APK files from odibets.com and chezacash.com are free too. What you pay is the deposit, which carries 5% excise duty, and the data the app uses.
Can I use the same account on the app and the website?
Yes. The app logs you into your existing account with your phone number, so your balance and open bets are the same on both. Betgr8's Play listing states this directly: use your existing account or sign up inside the app.
Can I bet without a betting app?
Yes, by SMS or on the mobile site. SportPesa takes bets by SMS to 79079, Shabiki runs SMS bets and withdrawals on 29063, and Chezacash registers new players who text WIN to 29030. SMS betting works on any phone, with no data at all.
